Pros & ConsThere are many books covering the benefits of starting your own business. I'm not going to discuss these but I will cover this distribution business, which is very unique and there are no books published on how this business operates that I know of. PRO: You can initially start this business as a one-person operation from your home. No special skills are required, just the desire to succeed on your own. You will never need any employees because you can always recruit independent contractors to run your routes if you choose. You'll never have a boss because you are the boss. Back to top CON: The challenge is to motivate yourself to work, especially in the beginning. You have no one to report to but yourself, so be a self started all the time and never be lazy or procrastinate. Back to top PRO: You receive a starter package that includes step-by-step guides to help you start and grow your new business. This package also includes a free case of display strips and a star burst sign kit. You can use these guides to quickly start your business once you receive your first order of pork rinds. Back to top PRO: My motivation was FAST PROFITS and CASH and lots of it. Even when I only had 25 customers I always had CASH after paying for all the product I sold. The only INVESTMENT to start this business is for product inventory and display racks. All the product is distributed for cash soon after it is received. If you invest and distribute $1,000 worth of product in four weeks you'll have all your money back, plus a profit. If you look at this business as an investment this is a very good return on your money. Back to top CON: To turn this inventory into cash you must work very hard and smart setting up a route of at least 25 independently run convenience stores very quickly. The best locations for distributing pork rinds and jerky are those that: pump gas, sell lotto tickets, sell beer & wine and cash checks. Also, any store within walking distance of one or more apartment complexes are excellent locations. So are highway truck stops and large gasoline operations along interstate highways. The key is for a successful store location is one that is very busy all the time. Back to top PRO:You can store inventory in a section of a garage and operate with your car in the beginning. Only if you choose to build a route of 50 or more accounts would you need a cargo van or trailer and maybe a small warehouse. Back to top PRO: Once you have a customer buying your first products, and they are satisfied with the products and your service, they will always ask "What else do you distribute?" This is your opportunity to grow your business with additional products. The more products you distribute the more profits you make from each account. This business is truly a numbers driven business. The more accounts you have selling one or more products the more profits you have. Always strive to increase your average sales amount. Back to top PRO: To open up pork rind accounts quickly you simply place display strips of product in the store for NO CHARGE. The customer signs your 2-part invoice that says the product is being left on the store for a 2 to 3 week trial period. This is because we want their customers to be the deciding factor. When you return the store would pay for the initial product and then be on a cash basis going forward, paying cash every time you service the account. Back to top PRO: I made many mistakes running and building my own distribution business. Now I work hard making sure these mistakes are not repeated by any new distributors. The key is to be profitable your first month and always stay in profit by working smart all the time. My job is to teach, coach, mentor and provided tons of support. Your job is to put in the time (part time or full time) to build your first route. You learn as you go, but every new customer generates so much joy that you just want to continue doing the same each day until you have a very profitable cash route that you can be proud of.
